Pet Blessings Mass – In Memory of St. Francis of Assisi

Pet Blessings Mass – In Memory of St. Francis of Assisi

On 5th October, St. Ann’s Parish joyfully celebrated the Pet Blessings Mass in memory of St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals and creation. The celebration took place in our beautiful parish garden, where around 200 people to join in this special outdoor Mass.

The atmosphere was one of joy, gratitude, and harmony with nature. During the Mass, more than 40 names of pets were remembered and prayed for alongside the regular intentions. The Prayer of the Faithful also included a heartfelt petition for all animals, recognising their gift of loyalty, companionship, and the comfort they bring to families in times of emotional need.

After the Mass, Fr. James offered a special blessing of the pets with holy water. Additional bottles of holy water were also blessed, and parishioners were encouraged to take them home to bless their neighbours’ and family members’ pets. Over 40 bottles were shared, spreading the blessings well beyond the parish garden.

The event concluded with a cheerful time of fellowship — both for the people and their pets! A refreshment area for pets was thoughtfully arranged, and each pet received a small gift of appreciation for their faithful companionship.

It was truly a joyful day at St. Ann’s – a celebration of creation, community, and the deep bond we share with all God’s creatures.

“The Lord is good to all; He has compassion on all He has made.” – Psalm 145:9
